Thirty-seven percent (37%) of voters favor making Greenland a part of the United States. A Napolitan News survey found that 41% are opposed.
Fifty-five percent (55%) of Republicans favor the proposal while 59% of Democrats are opposed.
However, if the people of Greenland wanted to become part of the United States, 61% of voters are ready to welcome them. On the other hand, just 16% would favor using the military to take Greenland.
President Trump has floated the idea of acquiring Greenland, which is strategically important for the national security of the United States. Greenland is currently part of Denmark and Danish officials have said Greenland is not for sale.
However, Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has indicated that Greenland should decide its own future, including the possibility of becoming an independent nation.
If that's their desire, 48% say the U.S. should support them while 16% say we should make it part of the U.S. Twenty-four percent (24%) say we should do neither.
The Prime Minister also spoke with President Trump about strengthening security measures. This seems consistent with Trump's longstanding desire to have our allies contribute more to the common defense.
