59% Believe President Has Too Much Power

  • A solid majority (59%) of voters believe the President has too much power, down 1 point from April.
    • Along with Democrats (84%) and Independents (68%), a majority of Traditional GOP voters (54%) now say the President has too much power.
    • That total is split among those who believe he has Far Too Much (40%) and Somewhat Too Much (19%).
    • While Biden was in office in August 2024, only 35% of voters believed the President had too much power.
    • One quarter (24%) of voters believe the President's level of power is About the Right Amount.
    • Seventeen percent (17%) believe it is too little.
  • Four in 10 voters (43%) believe that Congress has too much power, up 4 points from April and up 2 from February.
    • That total includes 18% who say it has Far Too Much and 25% who say Somewhat Too Much.
    • One quarter (28%) say Congress has too little power (up 1 point from April), while 24% say it has About the Right Amount.
    • By a 45% to 17% margin, Republicans say Congress has too much power, and a third (33%) say it is About the Right Amount.
    • A plurality of Democrats (42%) claim it has too much power, 38% say it has too little power, and another 17% say it is About the Right Amount.
  • Similarly, 44% of voters believe the Supreme Court has too much power, up 5 points from April and the same as February.
    • This group is split among those who believe it has Far Too Much (22%) and Somewhat Too Much (22%).
    • One in 5 voters (18%) say the Supreme Court has too little power, while 33% believe its level of power is about right.
    • One third (31%) of Republicans say the Court has too much power, 52% believe it has about the right amount, and only 13% say it has too little power.
    • On the other side of the aisle, 58% of Democrats say the court has too much power, but 21% believe it has too little.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, May 20-21, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
