  • Given a choice between four candidates of equal skills and temperament, 38% prefer a candidate who supports Trump-like policies.
    • Twenty-two percent (22%) prefer a candidate who supports policies like those of Senator Bernie Sanders.
    • Sixteen percent (16%) prefer a traditional Republican, and 18% a traditional Democrat.
  • Since October 2020, we have asked this question to highlight shifts of opinion within the two major political parties.
    • Over the coming weeks, we will begin transitioning from asking about a candidate who supports Sanders' policies to one who supports the policies of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), moving fully to AOC in August. When we started this series in 2020, Bernie Sanders was the leading voice of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. Now, AOC has taken on that role. It is appropriate, therefore, to make changes to our question wording to reflect that reality.
