  • For the month of July, if voters were given a choice between four candidates of equal skill and temperament, a plurality (35%) would choose a candidate who supported policies like President Trump.
    • Since we began asking this question in 2020, a plurality has always preferred such a candidate.
    • A candidate who supports policies like Bernie Sanders comes in a distant second with 24%, while 18% prefer a traditional Democrat, and 16% a traditional Republican.
  • Since October 2020, we have asked this question about a candidate supporting Senator Bernie Sanders' policies. Recently, we began a transition, alternatively switching between Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC).
    • When we started this series in 2020, Bernie Sanders was the leading voice of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. Now, AOC has taken on that role. It is appropriate, therefore, to make changes to our question wording to reflect that reality.
  • Starting in August, we will only be asking about AOC.
    • It is worth noting that she has always polled worse than Sanders, with more voters favoring a traditional Democratic candidate.
