02/27/2025

There is strong support from voters for slowing the growth of federal spending. Seventy-one percent (71%) favor a proposal to reduce the growth of spending on Medicaid. The proposal would remove illegal immigrants from Medicaid and require all who want Medicaid to work if they are able. A Napolitan News survey found that just 25% are opposed to such a proposal.

Sixty-five percent (65%) say reducing the growth of government spending is good for the economy. Republicans overwhelmingly believe slowing the growth of government spending is good for the economy, while Democrats are more evenly divided.

Voters are also in favor of slowing spending in the defense budget. Half (50%) of voters favor cutting spending for the defense of Europe.  Forty-nine percent (49%) believe it is possible to reduce defense spending by 8% without risking the national security of the United States. Twenty-eight percent (28%) of voters disagree.

This Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen February 25-26, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
