President Trump's announcement of a trade deal with China dramatically improved perceptions of his tariff strategy. Voters are now evenly divided: 47% approve of the way that President Trump is handling the issue of tariffs, while 48% disapprove.
This is up from two weeks ago when 41% approved and 53% disapproved.
Forty-one percent (41%) of voters believe that recent trade deals with China and the U.K. have been good for America. Thirty-seven percent (37%) believe they have been bad for the U.S.
Two thirds (66%) of voters think that new trade deals are likely to be reached with most countries around the world. Just 22% think that is unlikely.
The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen May 12-13, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
