Seven-in-10 voters (69%) say that President Trump's tariffs have caused prices on consumer goods to go up. This includes 58% of Republicans and 82% of Democrats. Just 11% say tariffs have caused prices to go down, and 11% say tariffs have had no impact on prices.
Consequently, just 32% of voters say the tariffs have been good for the economy, while 59% disagree. Those numbers include 12% of voters who say the tariffs have been Very Good for the economy, and 39% who say they have been Very Bad.
Fifty-four percent (54%) of Republicans say they have been good, while 84% of Democrats say they have been bad. Digging a little deeper, however, shows a clear divide in the right side of the aisle. Whlie 8-in-10 voters (77%) who prefer Trump-like policies say they have been good for the economy, just 31% of Traditional GOP voters agree.
On the issue overall, 36% approve of how President Trump is handling tariffs, a new low, while 58% disapprove. Disapproval is a single point below July's high of 59%. The totals include 15% who Strongly Approve but 40% who Strongly Disapprove. While 2-in-3 Republicans (66%) approve, 85% of Democrats disagree, along with 67% of Independents.

This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, August 31-September 1, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
