  • Seventy-three percent (73%) view the current Massachusetts motto favorably.
    • Only 17% view the motto unfavorably, despite the recent push to change it.
  • The Massachusetts Seal, Flag, and Motto Advisory Commission was established in 2024 to change the state motto, despite only 39% of voters favoring a change.
    • A slim plurality (41%) oppose changing the motto.
  • Three quarters (74%) believe that voters should decide on the state motto.
    • Only 13% of registered voters believe that it should be decided by the state legislature, and even fewer by the governor (6%).
  • If given the choice between the existing motto and the three recommended by the commission, the existing motto would narrowly win. 
    • Thirty-eight percent (38%) would choose the existing motto, while 36% would choose "Many voices, one commonwealth."
    • Another 10% would choose "We honor all life guided by the First Light," and 9% would choose "We rejoice in the public good."
