  • Almost 9 in 10 (87%) of voters agree with the Declaration of Independence where it says people are "endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights..."
    • Only 6% disagree with this principle.
    • The popularity of God-given rights remains consistently high, garnering 85% agreement in June 2025 and June 2024, and 82% in June 2023.
  • Even with all the divisions in our country today, most Americans agree that the United States was founded on the ideals of freedom, equality, and self-governance.
    • Currently, 80% say it is fair to say America was founded on these ideals.
    • That number has been 80% or above since 2023, and 70% or above since 2022.
    • Only 13% say the country was not founded on these ideals.
  • When it comes to whether the United States is doing a better job at living up to those ideals than in earlier times, opinion is more divided.
    • One third (33%) say we are doing a better job, but 55% say we are not.
    • In August 2023, voters were a little more pessimistic. Only 27% said we are doing better, but 61% said we are not.
    • More Republicans (47%) than Democrats (19%) say we are doing a better job today.
    • Forty percent (40%) of Republicans and 69% of Democrats say we are not doing better than in the past.


The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, October 8-9, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
