  • A majority (61%) of voters favor President Trump's announcement that he would cap credit card interest rates at 10%.
    • A third (31%) Strongly favor a cap on rates.
    • One in 5 (22%) oppose the idea.
    • Eighteen percent (18%) are Not Sure.
    • More Republicans (74%) than Democrats (50%) favor the idea.
  • Opponents of the policy say that it will make it harder for low-income Americans to get credit cards and increase other credit card fees.
    • One third (33%) agree and say capping the rate makes things worse for low-income Americans by preventing them from getting credit cards.
    • Still, 38% say capping interest rates at 10% make things better for low-income Americans by saving them money.
    • Just 8% say capping the interest rate would have no impact, and 21% are Not Sure.
    • By a 53% to21% margin, Republicans say capping the rate would make things better for low-income Americans.
    • Conversely, by a 46% to 26% margin, Democrats say it would make things worse.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, January 19-20, 2026 . RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
