Megan Romer, co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) made headlines yesterday by doubling down on the DSA agenda. In a recent survey, Napolitan News asked voters what they thought about the stances she claimed.
How Does It Stack Up?
Each policy mentioned by Romer is rejected by nearly 6 in 10 Americans. No stance she mentioned gets more than 32% support.
Ending All Deportations of Illegal Immigrants
This is the DSA's most popular idea, with 32% of voters favoring it, while 59% oppose it. These numbers include 15% who Strongly Favor it, but 33% who Strongly Oppose it. Eight in 10 Republicans (78%) oppose it, along with a majority (55%) of Democrats.
Defunding the Department of War
Even with President Trump's contentious new name, this idea only got 30% support, while again, 59% opposed it. Just 14% Strongly Favor it, while 38% Strongly Oppose it. Again, 8 in 10 Republicans (79%) oppose the idea. Democrats are divided: 44% favor the idea, but 41% oppose it.
Replacing the President and SCOTUS With Judges and Representatives Elected by Congress
It is only downhill from there. Even in an environment where 29% of voters believe Congress supports America's core values, only 29% of voters favor this platform, while 57% oppose it. Unsurprisingly, Republicans overwhelmingly oppose this idea, and a plurality (45%) of Democrats also oppose it. It is notable that, even the Progressive wing of the Democratic party, voters who prefer policies similar to Alexandria Ocassio-Cortez (AOC), opposes this idea by 45% to 41% margin.
And, once again, the opposition is far stronger than the support; 12% Strongly Favor the idea, while 42% Strongly Oppose it.
Ending All Restrictions on People Entering the U.S.
Opposition reaches new heights with the last two policies on this list. Two thirds (67%) of voters oppose ending restrictions on entering the U.S. Again, majorities of Republicans (78%) and Democrats (56%) oppose this idea. Just 38% of Democrats favor the concept. And, in as is consistent, just 12% Strongly Favor the idea, while 43% Strongly Oppose it.
Eliminating the U.S. Senate
Voters reject this idea by a resounding 70% to 19% margin. Overwhelming majorities of both parties are against this idea. In fact, a majority of voters (52%) Strongly Oppose it.
