When asked about protecting free speech or stopping disinformation, 79% of voters say it is more important to protect free speech so that all voices and opinions can be heard than it is to limit free speech to prevent the spread of disinformation. A Napolitan News Survey found only 13% say the opposite.
And, for all the talk about political correctness, 85% believe it is better to allow free speech even though it is sometimes offensive and inaccurate than it is to have the government decide what speech should be allowed. Just 7% say it is better to let the government decide.
Free speech is at the core of America's history, and voters want to guard it. Seventy-one percent (71%) are worried about government efforts to restrict freedom of speech, including 45% who are very worried. Only 28% say they are not very worried.
