Just 24% Support Recess Appointments for Trump Cabinet

11/19/2024

Just 24% of voters nationwide favor letting President Trump use so-called recess appointments to fill his cabinet. A Napolitan News survey found that 68% are opposed. They want the senate to follow normal procedure in confirming presidential cabinet members.

Voters who favor Trump-like policies are evenly divided (47% favor normal procedure, 42% recess appointments). All other voters are strongly opposed to recess appointments including those who favor Sanders-like policies (79%), those who favor traditional Democratic policies (88%), and those who prefer traditional Republican policies (77%).

The Senate is expected to confirm most of the incoming president's nominees. However, the confirmation of Matt Gaetz to be Attorney General is less certain. Among all voters, 23% have a favorable opinion of Gaetz and 41% have an unfavorable view. Twenty-one percent (21%) have never heard of him and 14% don't know enough to have an opinion.

This Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen November 18-19, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
