The Napolitan Institute, along with Jigsaw, a tech incubator within Google, partnered with the State of Oklahoma to hear from over 1,000 Oklahomans about their version of the American Dream. Rather than traditional polling methods, voters were asked to respond in their own words.

A New Era of Polling

While open ended responses are not new, usually they are limited to a sentence or two at most. New, AI-technology pioneered by the unique collaboration of the Napolitan Institute and Jigsaw helped unlock long form responses that revealed subtleties and connections far beyond traditional methods of polling.

In over 250,000 words, Oklahomans outlined an American dream based around economic opportunity, quality health and human services, and a transparent government that focuses on the needs of its constituents rather than partisan politics.

Participants were first asked a series of questions like those below:

  • If you could fast-forward 5 or 10 years, what is one thing you hope will be true for you and/or your family that is not yet true today? What could you do to make it happen?
  • What would help you achieve a better tomorrow that is currently outside of your control? Are there things that might make it easier or harder to achieve?
  • Knowing that state leaders are going to hear you, what are one or two things you would like to see happen in your community and/or state and why?

In conversational style, AI then asked follow up questions, and asked voters their thoughts on other participants responses. The result was a unique web of connections and sublety that brought out the concerns of real Oklahmans. It revealed that, despite political differences of opinion, voters in each party share a bedrock of core values, beliefs, and concerns that crosses party lines.

Survey conducted by RMG Research Inc. January 15-23. 2026 of 1,062 registed voters in Oklahoma
