25% Say They Have Lost Friends Over Political Differences

Twenty-five percent (25%) of voters say they have lost friends over differences in political ideas. Younger voters are more likely to have lost a friend over politics than their elders. Among voters under the age of 35, 36% have lost a friend due to politics. Among senior citizens, that number is just 10%.

Twenty-two percent (22%) of Republicans say they do not have any close friends who are Democrats. As for Democrats, 30% say they do not have any close friends who are Republicans.

For those who have friends across partisan lines, 51% say they usually ignore political subjects. Thirty-five percent (35%) of these voters claim they have reasonable discussions, and 13% say they often fight.

The Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters nationwide was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen March 6, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
