  • A plurality (45%) of voters believe most large corporations don't pay any federal income tax.
    • This is up 10 points from January 2024.
    • One third (36%) said that statement is false.
    • One in 5 (19%) are not sure.
  • A large majority (69%) say rich Americans pay a smaller share of their income in taxes than middle income Americans.
    • This is up 8 points from January 2024.
    • Far more Democrats (83%) than Republicans (56%) say rich Americans pay a smaller share.
    • Ironically, 87% of voters who work for the government also say rich Americans pay less.
  • Another large majority (71%) say the United States government today collects more taxes than at any other time in history.
    • This is up 7 points from January 2024.
    • Most Democrats (65%) and Republicans (76%) agree that the government collects more taxes than any other time.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, May 13-14, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
