  • Over the past month, 46% have paid all of their credit card balances in full.
    • Forty-five percent (45%) have made only partial payments, up 4 points from two weeks ago.
  • In addition, 53% of voters regularly set aside money in savings or retirement accounts.
    • Forty-three percent (43%) of voters say that all of their income goes to current living expenses. This is the lowest since late March, when 42% of voters said this.
  • When asked about a surprise emergency expense of $1,000, 49% of voters said they could make the payment without cutting back on their current lifestyle.
    • Forty-six percent (46%) would have to cut back on expenses for a while if an emergency expense came up.


The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen September 8-9, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
