  • A plurality of voters (49%) favor making physician-assisted suicide legal.
    • Fifteen percent (15%) Strongly Favor the idea.
    • Forty-two percent (42%) Oppose legalizing physician-assisted suicide.
    • More Democrats (57%) than Republicans (41%) favor legalized physician-assisted suicide.
  • One in 5 voters (22%) say that legal protections and restrictions around physician-assisted suicide should never be available in any circumstances.
    • One third (31%) of Republicans agree that it should never be available. Only 14% of Democrats agree.
    • Conversely, 17% say legal protections and restrictions should be available to anyone who is able to clearly articulate a desire to die.
    • As a compromise, 32% say physician-assisted suicide should be available to those with severe physical illnesses and less than 6 months to live.
    • Similarly, 25% say it should be available to those with severe physical and mental illnesses with no meaningful prospect of recovery.
  • Voters are split on who should make the laws.
    • Forty-two percent (42%) believe the federal government should make the laws about physician-assisted suicide so they are the same everywhere in the country.
    • Another 43% disagree and believe individual states should make the laws.
    • Republicans and Democrats have similar views.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, April 1-2, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
