Sixty-one percent (61%) of voters favor a proposal where the government would apply a special tax to take 5% of Elon Musk's wealth to fund government programs. This appetite for a targeted tax comes as the head of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter is named the world's first trillionaire. While Musk's financial empire reaches unprecedented heights, public support for taking a slice of it is notable, with only 27% opposing the proposal. Surprisingly, the idea bridges intense partisan divides: 76% of Democrats and nearly half of Republicans (49%) support the tax.

A Polarized Public Image
Despite his historic financial milestones, Musk is currently viewed favorably by 42% of voters, a 5-point drop from June 2025. Meanwhile, nearly half (48%) hold an unfavorable opinion of him.
The two major parties view him through completely different lenses: Republicans favor Musk by a 71% to 23% margin, while Democrats view him unfavorably by 74% to 16%.
Innovators vs. the Federal Government
When looking at the bigger picture of American progress, a plurality (43%) of voters believe that private innovators like Musk do more good for America than the federal government does. On the flip side, 28% disagree and say the government does more good, while 30% remain unsure.
Skepticism Over SpaceX Wealth
Only one-third (34%) of voters believe that the SpaceX IPO made more than 4,000 employees millionaires; 12% don't believe that to be true, and a 54% majority simply aren't sure.
