84% Say Fraud Is a Serious Problem in State Government

  • Eighty-four percent (84%) of voters say fraud is at least a Somewhat Serious problem in the state government. Just 11% say it is not. 
    • Those numbers include 49% who say it is a Very Serious problem and 2% who say it is Not At All Serious.
    • Large majorities of Republicans (89%) and Democrats (79%) consider it a serious problem.
  • Overall, 40% of voters trust Republicans to fight government fraud more than Democrats, and 40% trust Democrats over Republicans. 
    • Twenty percent (20%) are Not Sure. 
    • The party splits are predictable mirror images.
    • However, one third (32%) of voters who prefer traditional GOP policies say they are Not Sure who they trust more.
    • One quarter (24%) of those who prefer traditional Democrat policies say they are Not Sure.
  • If fraud is discovered, a majority (53%) want the money to be given directly to the people, while the rest are split between wanting to use the money to lower taxes (22%) or to expand social welfare services (22%). 
    • Nearly 6 in 10 Republicans (58%) prefer giving the money directly to the people, as do a plurality (44%) of Democrats.
    • Among the rest, Republicans favor reducing taxes while Democrats prefer increasing social welfare services.

 


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, December 9-10, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
