Despite significant media coverage in recent days, only 40% of voters know that there's a Republican convention this year. The Napolitan News survey found this total includes just 49% of Republicans.

The survey was conducted September 8-9, less than 24 hours before the convention began. Despite that, just 11% of voters knew the convention was even happening this week. That includes 12% of Republicans and 11% of Democrats. Among all voters 3% plan to watch most or all of it. Another 3% say they will watch at least a little of it.

Of the voters planning to watch, voters who prefer policies like President Trump's outnumber Traditional GOP voters approximately 2-to-1. Why does that matter? Scott Rasmussen has repeatedly pointed out that Trump's base is enthusiastic and will show up to vote no matter what. More Traditional Republicans, on the other hand, are far from a sure bet. And, unfortunately for President Trump and the Republicans, many of the president's latest actions have been viewed negatively by this important demographic.

If Republicans are hoping to catch some undecided Independents, that will also be tough; just 1% of Independents will be watching.
