  • One quarter (25%) of the voters trust the federal government to do the right thing most of the time.
    • That is down 5 points from a month ago.
    • Forty-three percent (43%) trust it some of the time, and 31% trust it rarely.
    • It has been over 50 years since a majority of Americans trusted the government to do the right thing a majority of the time.
    • Only 17% of Democrats trust the federal government a majority of the time, while 36% of Republicans hold that level of trust. Trust levels usually favor the party in the White House.
  • Only 26% of postgraduates say they trust the federal government to do the right thing a majority of the time.
    • This is a big drop from the last two months. Fifty-two percent (52%) said the same last month and 44% said the same in August.
  • Politically engaged voters have also lost some optimism. Only 27% say they trust the federal government to do the right thing most of the time.
    • In September and August, 43% and 45%, respectively, said the same.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, October 22, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
