The latest Napolitan News survey shows that just 27% of registered voters trust the government to do the right thing a majority of the time. In contrast, 1 in 3 (33%) trust the government Rarely or Never. These totals include 10% who trust the government Just About All the Time, and 17% who say they trust the government at least Most of the Time.

As the party in power, Republicans are more trusting of the federal government than Democrats. Thirty-nine percent (39%) of Republicans trust the government at least Most of the Time, compared to just 19% of Democrats. Republican numbers are driven up significantly by the 53% of Trump-policy supporters who say they trust the government at least Most of the Time. Just 22% of Traditional GOP voters say the same.

Party trust numbers were flipped when Biden was in office.

As seems inevitable, voters who talk politics on a daily basis are wildly out of touch: A majority (52%) say the government does the right thing at least Most of the Time, and 38% say it does the right thing Just About All the Time.

For context, it has been over 50 years since a majority of Americans trusted the federal government a majority of the time.

This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, September 21-22, 2026, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
