Misgendering is again in the news, after a town hall attendee corrected CNN host Anderson Cooper's use of pronouns when introducing her (preferred pronouns they/them).

This political weaponization is a black mark for those who engage in it, given that the attendee and Cooper seemed to not have any hard feelings in the interaction. Their reactions align with the vast majority of Americans just trying to navigate a new politically charged situation.

In previous polling , 81% said that misgendering a colleague - for example referring to a biological male by he/him instead of their preferred she/her- should not be a fireable offense. Only 8% took the opposite view.

In fact, just 30% of voters are even able to give an accurate description of the term "misgender" when presented with an open ended question.

This total includes 59% of those under 35, but only 9% of senior citizens.
