  • At most, just 37% of voters know what a filibuster is.
    •  In April 2024, we asked voters if they knew what a filibuster was, and 59% of voters said yes.
    • Two in 5 (41%) didn't know or weren't sure.
  • We then asked voters who said they knew to define a filibuster in their own words.
    • Just  64% of this group--37% of all voters--gave an answer that was even close to accurate, giving an answer related to "stalling to prevent a vote from passing."
  • A recent survey on filibusters further supports this finding, where voters' reactions to the filibuster were markedly different when different definitions were used.

This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, April 10-11, 2024. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
