Voters Strongly Reject Many Things Taught in DEI Programs

02/03/2025

Measuring public opinion on President Trump's order to end DEI programs is difficult because only 38% of voters know what DEI means. However, a Napolitan News survey found that voters strongly reject many things taught in DEI programs:

  • Seventeen percent (17%) believe it is appropriate to teach that the US is fundamentally racist or sexist
  • Just 16% believe it is appropriate to teach that members of a particular race or sex bear responsibility for actions committed in the past by other members of the same race or sex.
  • Only 13% believe teaching that members of certain groups are inherently racist and seek to oppress others is appropriate.

Instead, voters strongly support attitudes associated with America's noble founding ideals of freedom, equality, and self-governance:

  • Eighty-eight percent (88%) believe it is appropriate to teach that everyone should be treated equally, regardless of gender, race, social orientation, or age.
  • Eighty-seven percent (87%) believe it's best for companies to hire the best person for the job rather than to hire people who match the gender, racial, and ethnic profile of their community.

This Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen January 21-22, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
