  • Forty-seven percent (47%) of voters say Congress should formally declare war on drug smugglers, while 42% disagree. 
    • Republicans say Congress should declare war by a margin of 72% to 18%, while Democrats overwhelmingly oppose the idea by a 66% to 25% margin.
    • Sixty-one percent (61%) of those who Talk Politics Daily say Congress should declare war.
  • Forty-eight percent (48%) say the U.S. is not dealing with drug smugglers aggressively enough. 
    • Another 43% of voters say the U.S. is dealing too aggressively with alleged drug smugglers.
    • Three quarters (74%) of Republicans say the U.S. is not being aggressive enough, while 67% of Democrats take the opposite view.
  • Still, just 37% of voters say it is appropriate for the military to fire on drug smuggling boats. 
    • Fifty-eight percent (58%) disagree and say the suspects should be intercepted and arrested.
    • The number saying it is appropriate to fire on the boats is down 2 points from 39% in October and down 7 points from 44% in September.
    • A similar phenomenon can be observed on immigration: some voters are supportive of the mission, but not the methods.
    • Overall, 61% of Republicans say it is appropriate to fire on the boats, while 81% of Democrats disagree.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, December 9-10, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
