Forty-nine percent (49%) of voters believe that if a pregnant woman enters the U.S. illegally and gives birth, her child should automatically become an American citizen. A Napolitan News survey found that 35% are opposed.
Fifty-three percent (53%) of Republicans say such a child not be considered a citizen, while 66% of Democrats say the child should be.
Birthright citizenship is a term that is fairly well known amongst voters. Seventy-nine percent (79%) of voters are able to accurately describe birthright citizenship.
This Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen January 22-23, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
