  • Most (65%) voters favor increasing federal spending to hire more judges who can decide asylum cases in order to reduce the backlog and decide on asylum requests in a more timely manner.
  • Just 13% believe that someone who wished to claim asylum should be able to travel to anywhere in the U.S. to wait for his or her claim to be processed.
  • Half of voters (48%) believe that person should wait outside of the United States while the claim is processed, either in the bordering country from which he or she seeks to enter the U.S. (24%) or in his or her home country (24%).


The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen June 23-24, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
