  • Roughly half (49%) of American voters say that the majority of people getting food stamps are truly in need.
    • Forty percent (40%) disagree and say there is widespread abuse of the system.
    • Those numbers are little changed from May, when 51% said most receiving food stamps were truly in need and 39% claimed widespread abuse of the system.
  • By a 67% to 21% margin, Democrats say most recipients are truly in need.
    • Republicans say the opposite by a 57% to 34% margin.
    • Younger voters are more trusting, with 69% of voters under 35 saying a majority of recipients are truly in need, compared to just 37% of seniors.
    • Voters in high density areas are also far more likely to say people are truly in need (66%) than people in low density areas (46%).
  • A majority of voters (54%) also say people not getting the assistance they need is a bigger problem than too many people receiving them who are not eligible.
    • Thirty-seven percent (37%) disagree and say too many people receiving benefits is the larger problem.
    • Three quarters (74%) of Democrats say people not getting assistance is the larger problem, compared to just 33% of Republicans.
    • Elite and Elite Adjacent voters are split on the question; 44% say too many getting assistance is the larger problem, while 45% disagree.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, November 10-11, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
