  • Seventy percent (70%) of voters say that states that accept federal money for programs like Medicaid, food stamps, road building, and education should be required to provide information to the federal government that could help uncover fraud.
    • A Napolitan News survey found that just 17% disagree.
    • Eight in 10 Republicans (82%) are in favor of providing the information, along with a large majority (62%) of Democrats.
  • Forty-two percent (42%) of voters say that simply eliminating government waste and fraud would balance the Federal Budget.
    • One third (34%) disagree, while a quarter (24%) are not sure.
  • Voters who prefer Trump-like policies say it is possible to balance the budget this way by a margin of 64% to 19%.
    • Traditional Republican voters are split evenly.
  • Younger voters are the most optimistic, with a majority of voters under 45 believing the budget can be balanced by eliminating waste and fraud.
    • In contrast, just 32% of seniors agree.
  • Six in 10 voters (60%) say either that A Lot of spending or Most federal spending is waste and fraud.
    • A quarter (26%) say there is Some, while just 7% say there is Not Very Much.
    • Voters with a postgraduate degree are more than twice as likely as others to say there is Not Very Much fraud and waste (14%), compared to 6% of all other voters.
    • They are also more likely to say there is only Some fraud and waste (30%) compared to 25% of other voters.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, January 19-20, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
