  • In early November, New Mexico became the first state to offer universal child care, regardless of income. A proposal has been made to provide universal child care for all Americans. The proposal would cost taxpayers approximately $100 billion annually.
  • More than half (54%) favor the proposal, with 22% Strongly favoring it.
    • Thirty-eight percent (38%) oppose nationwide universal child care, including 20% who are Strongly opposed.
    • Democrats favor the proposal by a 68% to 22% margin.
    • More Republicans oppose (52%) than favor (41%) the proposal.
    • A large majority (78%) of voters who live in highly populated areas favor a proposal of universal child care.
  • If universal child care funding was available, 42% say Parents should decide what type of child care is appropriate.
    • One third (33%) say the State and Local Governments should decide the appropriate type of child care, while an even smaller percentage (15%) say the Federal Government should decide. 
    • While neither party is interested in the Federal Government making the decision, more Democrats (42%) than Republicans (26%) say the State and Local Governments should decide.
    • The older generation leans more toward Parents making the decision about the type of child care. This includes 58% of voters over 65.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, November 19-20, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
