56% Say Followers of Radical Islam Want To Destroy the U.S.

The latest Napolitan News survey found that 56% of voters believe followers of radical Islam want to destroy the United States. Twenty-one percent (21%) say that is not true and 24% are not sure.

Republicans believe followers of radical Islam are bent on U.S. destruction by a 74% to 11% margin. Democrats agree, but by a smaller 44% to 29% margin. Digging a little deeper on the left side of the aisle, while Traditional Democrat voters say radical Islamists want to destroy the U.S. by a 2-to-1 margin (50% to 25%), voters who prefer policies like those of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believe radical Islamists do NOT want to destroy America by a 36% to 31% margin.

Similarly, age plays a huge role in voters' perceptions. Among voters under 35, just 37% believe followers of radical Islam want to destroy the U.S. Meanwhile, majorities of every other age group agree, including 70% of seniors.

On a related note, 34% of voters believe the U.S. is doing enough to fight radical Islam, while 39% disagree. Twenty-sever percent (27%) are not sure. A narrow majority of Republicans believe America is not (53%) while a strong plurality of Democrats (43%) believe we are.

Asked if radical Islam or Israel represented a greater threat to the United States, 44% chose radical Islam, while 12% said Israel. Another 12% said neither and 18% said they were equal threats.

While Republicans overwhelmingly call radical Islam the bigger threat, Democrats are less sure. Just 28% of Democrats call radical Islam the bigger threat, while 20% picked Israel. Another 20% say both are equal threats, while 17% say neither is a threat.

This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, September 8-9, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
