  • Fifty-seven percent (57%) say that President Trump's approach to international affairs and foreign policy makes America less safe; this includes 39% who say Much Less Safe.
    • Another 39% disagree and say Trump's approach makes America safer, with 16% saying his approach makes it Much Safer.
    • As is expected, the parties disagree.
    • A solid majority of Republicans (73%) agree that Trump's approach makes America safer.
    • An overwhelming number (88%) of Democrats disagree and say his approach makes the country less safe.
  • A large majority of voters (64%) say America is less safe than it was a year ago, with 38% saying it is Much Less Safe.
    • This is up 10 points from last October.
    • One third (33%) say America is safer than it was a year ago, down 10 points from October.
    • An overwhelming majority (87%) of Democrats say America is less safe.
    • On the other side of the aisle, 59% of Republicans say that America is safer, and only 38% say it is less safe.
    • More women (70%) than men (58%) say America is less safe.
    • An overwhelming majority (78%) of voters in densely populated areas say America is less safe than it was a year ago.
  • Similarly, 74% say the world is less safe than it was a year ago, with 41% saying it is Much Less Safe.
    • This pessimistic sentiment is up 15 points from October.
    • Just 24% say the world is safer than it was a year ago.
    • More Democrats (85%) than Republicans (61%) say the world is less safe than this time last year.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, January 13-14, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
