77% Favor Requiring Companies To Verify That Potential Employees Are Legal Residents

01/14/2025

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of voters nationwide believe all companies should be required to verify that all their employees are in the United States legally. A Napolitan News survey found that this total includes 90% of Republicans, 72% of Independents, and 64% of Democrats. It also includes 59% of Hispanic voters.

Currently, some states don't allow the use of E-Verify systems to validate the legal status of workers. When informed of this, 68% favor a federal law requiring all companies in all states to verify the legal status of their employees. Just 19% are opposed.

Fifty-nine percent (59%) believe that requiring companies to verify the legal status of their employees would significantly reduce the number of illegal immigrants in the United States. Twenty-one percent (21%) disagree and say it would not have a significant impact.

Among Main Street Americans, 63% believe such employee verification would significantly reduce the number of illegal immigrants. Elite and Elite Adjacent voters are more divided: 46% believe it would significantly reduce illegal immigration, while 31% disagree.

This Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen January 7-8, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
