  • A majority (78%) of registered voters say that the man known to history as Jesus Christ actually existed and walked the earth.
    • This is down just 1 point from last year.
    • More Republicans (85%) than Democrats (74%) believe this statement.
    • Government employees are among the most skeptical about the existence of Jesus. More than one in three (36%) say he did not or are not sure.
  • A surprising majority (76%) say that Jesus Christ was the Son of God*.
    • More women (80%) than men (72%) believe this is true.
  • Seventy-two percent (72%) say that Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus Christ.
    • This belief is up 4 points from last year.
  • A smaller percentage of voters (62%) believe the main elements of the Christmas story, including the star of Bethlehem, angels appearing to shepherds, and the visit of the magi really happened.
    • Slightly more voters (64%) believed in these elements last year.
    • About 1 in 4 (23%) are not sure.
  • More Republicans than Democrats believe all of these statements to be true.
    • The most disagreement is in the last one regarding the Christmas story elements. Three quarters (75%) of Republicans believe they are true, compared to 55% of Democrats.

*It's important to note that all those who said "Yes" to this question may not mean the same thing.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, December 15-16, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
