  • Three quarters (78%) of voters are worried about free speech being used to spread disinformation and fake news.
    • Forty-two percent (42%) are Very Worried.
    • Only 7% are Not at All Worried.
    • Republicans and Democrats have similar opinions with roughly 80% saying they are worried, and about 20% saying they are not too worried.
    • In April 2022, just 64% of voters were worried about free speech being used to spread disinformation and fake news.
    • But since April 2023, at least 73% have been worried.
  • Similarly, 75% are worried about government efforts to restrict freedom of speech.
    • Forty-three percent (43%) are Very Worried.
    • Just 8% are Not at All Worried.
    • More Democrats (88%) than Republicans (65%) are worried about the government restricting free speech.
    • A large majority (87%) of those who talk politics nearly every day are also worried about free speech restrictions by the government.
  • More data from the same survey shows that 56% say the federal government deciding what information and news should be allowed is a larger threat than journalists publishing stories that could be harmful to national security.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, October 29-30, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
