56% Say Feds Deciding News Is Bigger Threat Than Journalists Publishing Stories Harmful to National Security

  • Fifty-six percent (56%) say the federal government deciding what information and news should be allowed is a larger threat than journalists publishing stories that could be harmful to national security.
    • Thirty-five percent (35%) disagree.
    • Fifty-five percent (55%) of Republicans say the greater threat is the journalists, while more than three quarters (77%) of Democrats say the greater danger is in the government deciding what news to be allowed.
  • Voters who prefer Trump-like policies say journalists are the larger threat by a 64% to 28% margin.
    • Voters who prefer traditional Republican policies say the greater threat is the government deciding the news by a 51% to 39% margin.
  • In a similar vein, 53% of voters approve of new limits on journalists from the Pentagon that require them to clear their stories with Pentagon authorities before they can be published.
    • Forty percent (40%) support these policies.
    • Thirty-seven percent (37%) Strongly Oppose the new policy, while half as many (18%) Strongly Support it.
  • Again, voters who prefer Trump-like policies overwhelmingly support the new policy by a 70% to 24% margin.
    • Voters who prefer traditional Republican policies are split: 47% favor the policy, while 46% oppose it.
    • Meanwhile, just 19% of voters who support policies like those of Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez support the policy, along with 12% of those who prefer policies of a traditional Democrat.

 


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, October-29-30, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
