  • During the shutdown, some political appointees and other federal employees may be fired due to lack of funds.
  • After the budget is agreed upon, 56% say the same individuals should be rehired.
    • Almost 4 out of 5 of Democrats (79%) agree with rehiring, but only 41% of Republicans agree.
    • Fewer men (51%) than women (61%) agree that the same individuals should be rehired.
    • Only 30% of Evangelical Christians say the government should rehire the same people.
  • One quarter (25%) say the president should be allowed to fill those positions with people more aligned with his politics.
    • Forty-two percent (42%) of Republicans agree that the president should have the freedom to hire people who align with him, but only 11% of Democrats say the same.
    • More men (33%) than women (19%) say the president should be allowed to hire people who align with his politics.
