  • Half of American voters (51%) would rather live in a community where people are allowed to own guns.
    • One third (34%) would prefer to live where guns are outlawed.
  • A plurality (38%) mistakenly attribute the leading cause of gun deaths in the U.S. to mass shootings.
  • Just 13% know that suicide is, in fact, the leading cause of gun deaths.
    • That places it fourth on the list, after mass shootings (38%), gang violence (21%), and other (14%).
  • Forty-seven percent (47%) of voters either own a gun or have an immediate family member who does.
    • Forty-six percent (47%) do not, while 6% report not sure.
  • These results are steady with our September 3rd results.
