  • A strong plurality (41%) mistakenly attribute the leading cause of gun deaths in the U.S. to mass shootings.
  • Just 16% know that suicide is, in fact, the leading cause of gun deaths.
    • That places it third on the list, after mass shootings (41%) and gang violence (24%).
  • In addition, 23% of voters think it is at least somewhat likely that they or a family member will be killed in a random mass shooting.
    • This includes 5% who say it is very likely.
  • Currently, half (51%) of Americans either own a gun or have an immediate family member who does.
    • Forty-six percent (46%) do not.
