  • Fifty-one percent (51%) say that it is appropriate for private companies to fire people who celebrate an assassination (like Charlie Kirk's) online.
    • Just 35% of voters say it is not appropriate.
    • Democrats are the only measured demographic group to have a majority opposed to the firing (a narrow 51%), though a few others (see Crossstabs) have pluralities opposed.
    • Just 27% of Democrats say it should be permissible to fire someone for such an act, compared to 80% of Republicans.
  • There is more support (59%) for the idea that reporters or public officials should be fired if they celebrate an assassination on social media.
    • An overwhelming majority (88%) of Republicans agree reporters or public officials should be fired, but only 34% of Democrats agree.
    • About three quarters (73%) of those who talk politics almost every day also believe reporters or public officials should be fired if they celebrate online.


The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen September 16-17, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
