  • Twenty-nine percent (29%) of voters don't know that there is a partial shutdown of the federal government at this time.
    • That includes 18% who say it is not and 11% who are not sure.
  • And, for all the uproar in Washington, only a small percentage of voters (6%) say that the federal government shutdown has affected their lives a lot.
    • Another 17% say the shutdown has affected their lives in some way.
    • Only 10% of government employees* say the shutdown has affected their lives a lot, and 39% say the shutdown has affected them some.
  • Among those voters who know about the shutdown, only 18% know someone who has been laid off or is temporarily out of work because of it.
    • Not surprisingly, 43% of government workers say they know someone who was affected.
  • Just 27% of voters have been following recent news stories about the federal budget very closely.

Napolitan News will keep monitoring this situation and bring you more data as we receive it.

*Note that our sample of government employees also includes state and local employees.

The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, October 1, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
