Most voters are not economic experts. They're not trying to understand what makes a good or bad economy.

When a polling question asks what people think about the economy as a whole, you're not getting the best data. The most important thing to look at is how people are feeling about their personal finances. This data will always give you better understanding about where the American people are are feeling about the economy. Historically, how people feel about their personal finances are the single biggest indicator for how they will vote.
