In the month of August, President Trump's approval rating fell on every issue measured in the latest Napolitan News survey. The most concerning numbers for the president involve the economy. Just 38% of voters approve of his handling of the economy, down 2 points from July, while 59% disapprove, up 3 points. Those numbers include 16% who Strongly Approve and 44% who Strongly Disapprove.
It is worth noting that while 84% of Trump's base approves, a majority (52%) of Tradtional GOP voters disapproves of his handling of the economy.
On the related issue of inflation, the numbers are more grim: 34% approve, while 62% disapprove. Just 14% Strongly Approve of the president's handling of this issue, while nearly half the country (49%) Strongly Disapproves. Once again, while 8 in 10 members of Trump's base approve, 62% of Traditional GOP voters disapprove of President Trump on inflation.
Iran and National Security
The pessemism in Iran has weakened Trump's approval on national security as well. A new low (44%) approve of the president on national security, while a majority (52%) disapprove. In fact, Republicans now just have a 4-point edge over Democrats on this topic. A 16-point edge for Republicans in March evaporated to 4 points by April as it became clear that the war in Iran was not going to be quick or easy.
