Voters Recognize Importance of Greenland, but Disapprove of Trump's Handling

  • Fifty-eight percent (58%) of voters say it is important for the United States to complete an agreement that prevents Russia and China from gaining access to Greenland. Half of those voters (29%) say it's Very Important.
    • More Republicans (85%) than Democrats (40%) say completing the agreement is important.
    • Two in 5 Democrats (21%) are Not Sure whether an agreement preventing Russia and China from accessing Greenland is important.
    • Two-thirds (66%) of voters following the Greenland news closely also say the agreement is important.
  • A similar number of voters (55%) favor a proposal to give the U.S. control over some mineral rights in Greenland and increase the U.S. military presence in that country. This action would also block Russia and China from obtaining rights to mine rare-earth minerals in Greenland.
    • One quarter (27%) oppose such a proposal.
    • An overwhelming majority (86%) of Republicans favor the proposal.
    • Democrats are more divided, with 32% who favor the proposal, 46% who oppose it, and 22% who are not sure.
  • However, nearly half of voters (48%) disapprove of the way President Trump is handling the issue of Greenland, with 36% Strongly Disapproving.
    • Another 36% approve of how he is handling the issue.
    • Over two thirds (69%) of Republicans approve, and only 12% of Democrats approve.
  • Similar dynamics are at play in regard to immigration: a majority voters still support the deportation of illegal immigrants, but a majority also want ICE to leave Minnesota.
  • Currently, 65% of voters have been following the stories about President Trump's desire to make Greenland part of U.S. territory, with 23% following the stories Very Closely.
    • For context, 22% of voters followed the Jeffrey Epstein story Very Closely.
