  • As has been the case for decades, approximately 80% of voters say legal immigration is good for the United States, while a similar number say illegal immigration is bad for the country.
  • Currently, 63% say the federal government is serious about trying to secure the border and reduce illegal immigration.
    • That is down 5 points from our last survey.
    • Seventy-nine percent (79%) of Republicans feel the government is serious about this effort, while 52% of Democrats agree.
    • The remaining Democrats are split between those who say the government is not serious (28%) and those who are not sure (20%).
    • When Joe Biden was in office, just 25% felt the federal government was seriously trying to secure the border and reduce illegal immigration.
  • And, for all the talk about reforming our immigration system, 58% say there is no point unless we first secure the border.
    • That is just a 1 point change since June, but 8 points down from the beginning of the year.
    • That total number includes includes 76% of Republicans but just a narrow plurality (44%) of Democrats.

 


The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, October 13-14, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1
