It's the home stretch of the 2024 election with just 7 days to go until November 5. The presidential race is still too close to call, and every vote is going to count. Stories of voter fraud and ballots being sent to deceased people are running rampant, building distrust between the public and those who are supporting the election.
Just 43% of voters say they are very confident that votes will be accurately counted and the proper winners declared in the upcoming election. Twenty percent (20%) are not very or not at all confident.
The fact that fewer than half of all voters are very confident this will be a fair election suggests that whoever loses is likely to think that they were robbed. Reactions will likely be similar to 2016 and 2020: only 29% of voters think the legitimate winner was declared in both of those elections.
Even if their candidate does lose, a small number of Americans (7%) would rather cheat than lose an election. For the influential Elite 1%, those who have the power and money to impact campaigns and the media narrative, 35% would rather cheat than lose a close election. Even worse, among the politically active Elite 1% - those who talk politics every day - 69% would rather cheat than lose a close election.
Another major issue this election is non-citizens voting. Fifty-four percent (54%) think it is at least somewhat likely that a large number of illegal immigrants will be allowed to vote this year.
Seventy-five percent (75%) of voters are opposed to allowing illegal immigrants to vote in federal elections, and 87% favor requiring voters to show a photo ID.
