A new Napolitan News survey of 7,197 Registered Voters conducted in June 2026 shows that 29% of registered voters would prefer a candidate who advocates Trump-like policies when given a choice between four candidates of equal skills and temperament. While this figure is up 1 point from last month's 28%, it is only a single point above the lowest level seen since President Trump returned to office.
The Four-Way Breakdown
The June 2026 survey highlights a fragmented electorate when voters are presented with distinct ideological choices:
- Trump-Like Policies: Supported by 29% of voters.
- Traditional Republican Policies: Just 19% of voters favor traditional party policies.
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC)-Like Policies: One in 5 voters (19%) prefer this progressive approach.
- Traditional Democrat: Favored by 23% of voters.

Historical Trends and Decline From Peaks
Over the past 5 years, a plurality of voters has always favored a candidate offering Trump-like policies. However, support has steadily dropped each month since June of 2025, sliding from a high of 37% at that time down to its current levels.
This downward trend stands in contrast to earlier peaks. When President Trump won the 2024 election, 37% of voters preferred a candidate advocating his policies. That support eventually peaked at 38% across December 2024 and January 2025.
Shifting Dynamics on the Left
The poll also continues to track a slight shift in progressive alignment. Between January 2024 and March 2025, when Senator Bernie Sanders was used in the polling prompt, voters who favored Sanders-like policies stayed consistently between 20% and 22%. In August 2025, the survey began tracking voter opinions on AOC-like policies instead.* Since that transition, her name and policies have polled slightly lower than Sanders' previous marks.
* Since October 2020, we have asked this question, but about a candidate supporting Senator Bernie Sanders' policies, rather than about AOC's. August was the first complete month using AOC in place of Bernie Sanders.
When we started this series in 2020, Bernie Sanders was the leading voice of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. Now, AOC has taken on that role. It is appropriate, therefore, to make changes to our question wording to reflect that reality. The change from Bernie Sanders to AOC had no impact on Trump and Traditional Republican figures.
