  • In the full month of January, 45% considered themselves Democrats or leaned Democrat, while 44% of voters considered themselves Republican or leaned Republican.
    • For Republicans, this number has trended down. It is 1 point down from December and November, and 2 points down from October.
    • Meanwhile, for Democrats the number is up 2 points from December, and up 1 point from November and October.
    • When leaners are removed, the Republicans have a 2-point advantage (37% Republicans to 35% Democrats).
  • From November 2024 through December 2025, Republicans held a party edge every month, except one.
    • In April 2025, when tariffs were announced, Democrats had an edge as they do this month.
